ACL has acquired Genome.One  - Australia's only provider of whole genome sequencing for clinical diagnostic. We provide a state-of-the-art genomic pathology service across Australia to assist clinical diagnosis based on personalised genomic information.

An exciting career opportunity currently exists for two experienced Interpretation Scientists to join our Genome.One team.

The primary purpose of this position is to use specialist genetic knowledge to generate and enhance the interpretative aspects of the genomic analysis and reporting pathway. A strong interpretation team is key to enable Genome.One to operate as the premier genomic testing facility in Australasia.

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Provide clinically informed and relevant analyses of genomic data.
  • Participate with other laboratory and medical professionals in the preparation of clinical genomic reports.
  • Refine the clinical variant analysis pipeline in conjunction with the production bioinformatics team.
  • Act in accordance with and within the boundaries of the laboratory’s quality system, the terms of accreditation, and applicable health and safety regulations.
  • Develop and maintain gene lists associated with genetic conditions.
  • Promote genomic testing at Genome.One for human Mendelian and other diseases from patients referred from Australia and globally.

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications Required:

  • Formal qualification in biology with experience in genetics – this may be in the form of:
  • BSc degree with/without Honours or PhD or,
  • Masters in Genetic Counselling
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to develop, manage and maintain internal and external relationships
  • Good leadership skills, team player, independent worker, able to motivate, inspire and teach others
  • Ability to work with Office and collaboration software such as JIRA/Confluence

Desirable:

  • Experience in working within quality management systems
  • Experience in provision of clinical pathology services
  • Experience in genomic variant prioritisation, assessment, and classification
